Ordination Process: Priesthood

Every successful discernment process should begin with extensive time in individual discernment with the local parish priest.  Once approved as Postulants, those pursuing ordination to the Priesthood should anticipate completing three years of residential seminary at an institution approved by the Bishop.  The expectation is the successful completion of a Master of Divinity (MDiv) degree.

During the course of their formation they will be interviewed by the Standing Committee for approval as Candidates for ordination, then prior to ordination to the Transitional Diaconate and again before ordination to the Priesthood.  During these three years, it is also expected they will work with the Examining Chaplains of the Diocese to ensure their formation process is progressing as is necessary to successfully complete their canonical exams at the conclusion.

Those with questions about the process or any steps along the way are encouraged to contact the Bishop’s office to speak with either his assistant (Deacon Joyce Harder) or the Canon to the Ordinary (Cn. Jim Lewis).
