The Rt Revd Charles F Edgar III
Bishop Chip Edgar was consecrated Bishop of The Anglican Diocese of South Carolina at a festive service on Saturday, March 12, 2022 at the Cathedral Church of St. Luke & St. Paul. Read the story.
Prior to becoming our Bishop, he served as the Planting Pastor, Rector and Dean of The Cathedral Church of the Apostles (Diocese of the Carolinas) in Columbia, SC, where he has served since 2004. During that time, he oversaw the growth of the church from a core group of 25 to an average Sunday attendance of nearly 400. He served as the Rector of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, Glen Ellyn, IL from 1997 – 2004; as the Canon Pastor at the Cathedral Church of St. Luke in Orlando, FL from 1994 – 1997 and as the Curate at St. Paul’s Church, Chattanooga, TN from 1993 – 1994. Bishop Edgar and his wife, Beth, have been happily married since 1989. They have five grown children, three grandchildren (with a fourth on the way as of July 2024!)
“My background in pastoral ministry and parish leadership gives me a passion for seeing people come to know and live out the grace of God through Jesus Christ in their lives. I want to see churches live out the values of the Kingdom of God in every area of life.”

The Rt Revd Chip Edgar
Date of Birth: August 25, 1964

Current Position: Bishop of The Anglican Diocese of South Carolina
Personal Reflection on Ministry Highlights: “I have loved each parish I’ve served these past 28 years, but my years in Columbia have been the most rewarding: from planting the church, to seeing it grow in size, depth, and influence. We have raised up and sent out more than a dozen priests to plant, restart, and pastor churches from Seattle to the Florida panhandle, and we recently planted a daughter congregation in Lexington, SC. I believe that in spite of all the challenges we see in the world around us, the Kingdom is advancing, and that the local parish is God’s “Plan Only” for the redemption of the world.”
Where I experience passion in ministry: “I have a strong background in pastoral ministry and parish leadership, but my passion is seeing people come to know and live out the grace of God through Jesus Christ in their lives. I want to see churches live out the values of the Kingdom of God in every area of life, and I want God’s people to know that they are loved by him, and secure in his grace and mercy. If we faithfully live in the freedom that comes from that deep, heartfelt knowledge, I believe that grace and love will flow out from our churches and transform our communities.”
