2022 Men’s Summit Canceled
The Men’s Summit Leadership Team is sorry to announce that due to the funeral this Saturday, October 15th of his brother, Bishop Chip Edgar will not be able to lead us in our Men’s Summit. He is very disappointed not to be with us, but this sad occasion needs his full attention. Consequently, we are canceling our 2022 Men’s Summit scheduled for this Saturday at St. Paul’s, Summerville. Please be in prayer for the Bishop and his family during this difficult time.
We are delighted to announce that Bishop Edgar will be our speaker at our 2023 Christian Men’s Conference, February 24-26, 2023. Our theme will be “Faith in the Home.” Registration opens on November 1, 2022. Learn more.

2021 Men’s Virtual Summit
The Rev. John Yates, Sr., pastor and author gives two talks on Faith in the Home. This event was held October 9, 2021. View the video.
Small group questions:
After talk #1
1. Introduce yourself to one another and describe your home situation
2. Have you known another family or marriage in which you felt it was truly a home of faith? Tell about them and how this impacted you.
3. Why do you think John spoke of honesty with God and with one another as the first characteristic of a Christian home? If you want, tell a bit about your own perspective about this. Is this sort of honesty difficult? Is it always wise? When can honesty in the home backfire? Do you think John was overstating this point? Why? Why not?
After talk #2
1. Do you agree with John’s point about the importance of the influence of the father on his children’s faith? Why/why not? Have you seen any examples of this that you could tell us about?
2. Could any of you share about the impact of your dad upon your life and faith, lessons you learned from him, how this has impacted you as a man? Influence upon you that was negative/positive? What do you think about the example of “adding ballast” to your children’s boat?
3. John spoke about the need to come to Christ and turn your life over to him and then the place of the Bible, prayer, and men’s groups in helping us to grow……could you comment on any ways in which you have found these things true for you as well?
4. What would you like more teaching on as we continue this theme of Faith in the home at our winter men’s retreat? We’d like to plan this based on the needs you have
2018 Men’s Summit III Talks
Bishop Mark Lawrence: “A Work To Do”
On Saturday, September 30, 2018, more than 230 men from across the Diocese gathered at St. Paul’s Church in Summerville for the 3rd annual Men’s Summit.
Building upon the diocesan men’s ministry three-year theme of ‘Reclaiming Biblical Manhood,’ Bishop Lawrence addressed the topic of ‘A Work To Do’ as Christian men.
He spoke of an internal work, meaning the work of the Holy Spirit within us and surrendering our lives to that work for which we contribute nothing but ourselves. He also spoke of the work we are called to within the Church—made up of our various church families. Finally, he encouraged the men to do the work which we have been called to do in the world—the work of evangelizing. Bishop Lawrence encouraged the men of the diocese to pursue more deeply what spiritual gifts have been given to them by God—for we all have gifts of the Spirit, to be used for the glory of the Kingdom of Heaven!

Talk #1: Your mind matters
1. “The journey from the head to the heart is the longest and most difficult we know.” Discuss this journey in your own life.
2. “What the heart desires, the will chooses and the mind justifies.” How do you gain control of your mind when your heart desires things of the flesh? Do you have a group of Christian men you can lean on and with who would be willing to ask to hold you accountable?
3. “God renews our minds as we allow His Word and His Spirit to form and shape our thoughts and imagination and thereby gain a Spirit-formed mind.” How do you renew your mind? Daily. What are your take-aways from this talk?
Talk #2: Your body matters.
1. “The body’s desires and appetites can lead us astray just as much as the desires of the heart or the wrong thinking of the mind.” How does this happen in your life? Any specific examples?
2. “The bodily passions war against us and so leads us into sin but the body guarded by a renewed mind can be used for great good.” Ah, back to the mind. How does your control of your mind direct the feet of your body?
3. “We are expected to glorify God in our bodies.” By our own physical appearance? How does your body glorify God? In your actions? Discuss. What are your take-aways from this talk?
Talk #3: Your heart matters.
1. “Biblically speaking the heart is our inner center- the inner person where our emotions and will reside.” What is your heart condition today? Where would you like it to be?
2. “All too often, it is in the heart that resentment and bitterness take root.” If your heart is filled with resentment and bitterness, how will this affect your mind and body? How do you release yourself from resentment and bitterness?
3. “To watch over or keep the heart is to protect our hearts by God’s grace and Spirit from the influences that might jeopardize our integrity.” Do you see the connection between your heart and your integrity? Explain.
4. “Again, one of the greatest of all journeys is the journey with God from the head to the heart, it courses through the mind, body and emotions.” From these three talks, is that journey from the head to the heart more open to you? Is this a one-time journey or ongoing journey? What are your take-aways from these Men’s Summit talks?
