Emil came to the ACNA and the Diocese from the Lutheran Church (ELCA), where he served as an ordained pastor for over 20. Prior to attending seminary, he served on active duty in the U.S. Marine Corps, flying the A-6 Intruder, among other adventures, and retired after twenty years of service. He is a graduate of Culver Academy; Clemson University, with a BA in Secondary Education (history); California State University, with an MA (history); Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary (Columbia, SC), with an MDiv; and Ashland Theological Seminary, Ashland University (Ashland, Ohio), with a DMin (Pastoral Counseling). He spent most of his pastorate in Ohio, and was most recently pastor of Christ Lutheran Church, Hilton Head, before retiring in 2019 and moving across the county to his hometown of Beaufort. He was ordained to the priesthood in February 2023 and is now serving as Associate Rector at St. Helena, Beaufort. He and his wife, Barbara, have two grown daughters and six grandchildren.
