Born in Worcester, MA, Kathie grew up in Holden, MA., was baptized a Methodist, confirmed a Lutheran, and confirmed an Anglican. She has been a Christian since her very early preteens. Kathie earned a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Elementary Education with a specialty in Early Childhood from Worcester State College, and an Master of Arts (MA) in Counseling Psychology from Argosy University. She also graduated from the Diaconate Training Program in the Anglican Diocese of South Carolina. Kathie married Bill Phillips in 1964 and they have three children and 16 grandchildren (plus 3 who adopted me in Nairobi, Kenya). During their marriage, they have lived in Holden, MA, Oxen Hill, MD, Camberly, Surry, England, Hendersonville, NC, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Worcester, MA, Bangkok, Thailand, Hong Kong, and Hilton Head Island, SC. She has taught in public, private and Christian schools here in the United States and overseas. Started one Christian preschool in Holden, MA and was the Director for two Christian preschools, one in Hendersonville and the other here at St. Luke’s. She spent several years in retail sales, first as a Sales Manager and then as Human Resource Manager. When no teaching positions were available and she was a partner in a small women’s clothing store for a year, she moved with her family to Malaysia. She worked as the Business Manager at All Saint’s Episcopal Church in Worcester and as Administrative Assistant here at St Luke’s. Kathie was ordained to the Vocational Diaconate in the Anglican Diocese of South Carolina and serves here at St. Luke’s. She retired on the 18th anniversary of her ordination. Her Diaconate was Chaplain to missionaries and she was a missionary with Global Teams as the International Partner Care Director for 17 years, and as a member of the GT board for several years.
