Deacon Ed is a native of Virginia. He graduated from the Virginia Military Institute, and he received his Ph.D. from the University of Virginia. After nine years of teaching in Virginia colleges, he joined the faculty of the Citadel where he taught for 30 years as Colonel and Professor of Political Science. He achieved the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Army Reserve. He has been active in Boy Scouts where he was awarded the Silver Beaver, the Vigil Honor of the Order of the Arrow, and the Episcopal St. George Award. He was ordained a Deacon in 2005 and was assigned to two churches in the Charleston, SC area before moving to Vinson Hall Retirement Community in 2015
