Bishop Lawrence to Address Cummins Seminary Commencement

The Right Reverend Mark J. Lawrence, Bishop of the Diocese of South Carolina, will deliver the Address at the 2017 Commencement ceremony of Cummins Theological Seminary in Summerville, SC. The Commencement will take place on Saturday, May 13, 3:00 p.m., in Bethel A.M.E. Church, 407 South Main Street, Summerville.

In September, 2016, Bishop Lawrence was elected to the Board of Trustees of the seminary by the Synod of the Reformed Episcopal Diocese of the Southeast. Also, during this academic year the seminary added three new members to the Faculty — The Rev. Dr. George Gatgounis, instructor in Biblical Hebrew; Fr. John Panagiotou, instructor in New Testament Greek, and the Rev. Dr. Charles Echols, adjunct professor of Old Testament.

During the Commencement, Seminary President, the Very Rev. Dr. Julius Barnes, will award degrees and diplomas to five graduating students. Nadine M. Stanley, of Charleston, will receive the Master of Divinity (M.Div.) degree. The Diploma in Theology will be awarded to SanRoman King of Summerville; Anna Marie Spells of Ridgeville; and Syphio Whack of Ladson. Burnie Mae Barnes, of St. Stephen, will receive a Certificate in Biblical Studies.

Cummins Seminary is located at 705 S. Main Street, Summerville, on the former campus of the Pinewood School. The public is invited to attend the Commencement on May 13, in Bethel A.M.E. Church, and the reception for the graduates immediately after the ceremony. The Seminary is a Christian Education ministry in the Anglican tradition of the Reformed Episcopal Diocese of the Southeast.
