The seal of the Anglican Diocese of South Carolina, introduced by Bishop Chip Edgar on March 8, 2024 at our diocesan convention, reflects both our diocese’s historic roots and its future, centered on the motto from Revelation 21, “Behold, I make all things new.” The amethyst vesica-shaped seal—symbolically linked to episcopal sobriety—includes several meaningful elements: the Bible at its base with the motto in Greek as the foundation of diocesan life; a descending dove representing the Holy Spirit; and a central cross with budding leaves symbolizing the Tree of Life in the New Jerusalem. The four quadrants surrounding the cross depict the slain Lamb (Christ), a river representing both the River of Life and the region’s many rivers, a sword and crozier symbolizing the authority of God’s Word and episcopal leadership, and a baptismal font representing new life in Christ. Together these symbols express a new season for the Anglican Diocese of South Carolina—freed from past difficulties and called to growth, renewal, and faithful mission under the power of the Holy Spirit.
