SUMMARY:Cursillo 196
DESCRIPTION:The Cursillo weekend brings together a diverse group of Anglicans to share the richness of many modes of worship and to broaden each one’s appreciation for our Church. Lay people conduct the weekend with two or three members of the clergy functioning as spiritual advisors. Cursillo presumes that those who attend are already well grounded in the faith. It is not intended to be a conversion experience but an enriching and deepening of what is already there. It often provides new insights into our faith as well as fostering ministry among lay people. \nThe weekend begins Thursday evening with meditations\, discussions\, and Compline. Then blessed silence is kept until after the worship on Friday morning. After breakfast participants are assigned to table groups for the weekend. The three days are filled with talks and group discussions with emphasis on the doctrine of Grace\, the Sacraments\, and the great Cursillo tripod: Piety\, Study\, and Action. Plus there is fellowship\, singing\, good food\, and time for privacy\, meditation\, prayer\, and walks. Eucharist is celebrated each day.

Lawrence will ordain David Marten to the order of transitional diaconate at the Church of the Holy Comforter\, Sumter. A native Kansan\, David received his Master of Arts in Christian Thought from Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary in Charlotte\, NC. He’s been living in the Carolinas since 2011 and has been at Holy Comforter since 2014. He has several interests ranging from biking to reading\, coffee to graphic design\, and amateur carpentry to computer gaming.

DESCRIPTION:Refocusing on Mission: Diocesan Gatherings with Bishop Mark Lawrence\n\nThe first priority of the Church is always proclamation of the Good News of Jesus Christ; in all the manifold ways the Body of Christ accomplishes that task together. \nThere are many obstacles\, however\, that can disrupt the mission of the Church and distract us from our primary task.  These events drain away our energy and negatively impact our missionary effectiveness. \nBishop Mark Lawrence will be leading gatherings at five locations around the Diocese at which he will speak to some of the current events that sap our strength\, answer questions and reflect on how to re-focus and build a Kingdom and Gospel mindset. All clergy and laity are invited to the gatherings.
