DESCRIPTION:On Saturday\, August 11 at 10:30 a.m. the Rt. Rev. Mark J. Lawrence\, Bishop of South Carolina\, will ordain David Barr to the Sacred Order of Deacons in Christ’s One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church at The Cathedral of St. Luke and St. Paul in Charleston\, South Carolina. A reception will follow. Clergy are asked to wear red stoles. \nDavid grew up in Sumter\, South Carolina and came into the faith at the Church of the Holy Comforter where his father\, the Rev. Dr. John Barr III\, was rector. He currently lives in Charleston with his wife\, Caroline\, and is Scholar in Residence at the Cathedral Church of St. Luke and St. Paul. David has a BA in theology and English literature from Covenant College\, an MA in theology and ethics from the University of Virginia. He is finishing a PhD in theology from the University of Toronto. \n \n

DESCRIPTION:Refocusing on Mission: Diocesan Gatherings with Bishop Mark Lawrence\n\nThe first priority of the Church is always proclamation of the Good News of Jesus Christ; in all the manifold ways the Body of Christ accomplishes that task together. \nThere are many obstacles\, however\, that can disrupt the mission of the Church and distract us from our primary task.  These events drain away our energy and negatively impact our missionary effectiveness. \nBishop Mark Lawrence will be leading gatherings at five locations around the Diocese at which he will speak to some of the current events that sap our strength\, answer questions and reflect on how to re-focus and build a Kingdom and Gospel mindset. All clergy and laity are invited to the gatherings. SUMMARY:Clergy Renewal of Vows
DESCRIPTION:The clergy of the Diocese will renew their vows on Thursday\, March 22  at 11 a.m. at the Cathedral of St. Luke and St. Paul. \nClergy are to wear white stoles. \nA Note to laity:  Though the service is primarily for the clergy\, it is open to the public and the laity are encouraged to attend.  If you’re able\, join us at the service. It’s a time to not only come alongside\, pray for and encourage our clergy in their callings\, but also a time to renew our own commitment to love\, follow and serve Christ. Consider it part of your Lenten observance.  It’s a perfect lead-in to Holy Week. \nClergy are invited to bring labeled bottles of oil for both Chrism and Unction for the blessing at the conclusion of the service. There will also be additional bottles\, available after the conclusion of the service\, for those who are unable or forget to bring their own. Box lunches are available for those clergy who reserve them. (Note: Though the service is open to all\, the lunch is for clergy only). \nBarring good cause and due notification of the bishop\, all clergy are expected to attend this service. \nClergy are to RSVP to Sara Ortiz at office@adosc.org.
