Scott Poelker was ordained as a Deacon on January 27, 2024, and is assigned to St. Paul’s Summerville, where he seeks to provide relief for vulnerable people living in mobile home parks and children and youth suffering from anxiety and depression. Deacon Scott and his wife Pam have two adult children and 3 grandchildren. Previously, Scott served at Trident Technical College for 21 years, ultimately as Senior Vice President for Business affairs, responsible for the college's finances, facilities, and other non-academic operations. Before that, he served in the U.S. Navy Civil Engineer Corps for 20 years, leading teams that built, operated, and maintained Navy facilities, while living in and traveling to many places around the world. He left the Navy with the rank of Commander. Scott has served the Diocese as a Trustee, member of the Finance Committee, and as assistant leader on a men’s pilgrimage to Israel. He also served at St. Paul’s Summerville in a wide variety of lay ministries. Deacon Scott holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Duke University, a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology, and a Certificate of Graduate Study in Higher Education Leadership from the University of South Carolina.
