Advent is an exciting time in our Diocese. Many churches are offering special events and services open to their communities in hopes of leading them in a worshipful and joy-filled Advent season. See the events below and consider attending one in your community!
Nativity Fest at Christ the King, Pawleys Island, December 6-12
Christ the King invites you to celebrate the Good News of Christ’s birth by enjoying their self-guided nativity tours available every evening from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on December 6 through December 12. There is no charge for admission! Learn more.
The King’s Counterpoint presents “Christmas Through the Ages Volume 12,” Old St. Andrew’s, Charleston, December 13
No Tickets are required for this FREE Concert which will be held Saturday December 13 at 7pm at Old St. Andrew’s Parish Church, 2604 Ashley River Road. The choir traces the history of sacred and secular music and carols for the Christmas Season from plainchant, through Medieval and Renaissance, Baroque and 20th-Century and up to the modern day. Carols from America, England, France and Germany. A perfect way to celebrate the Christmas Season and capture the Christmas Spirit through music, song and readings.
Advent Story of the Season, St. Helena’s, Beaufort, December 14
On December 14, St. Helena’s will share the story of Christ’s incarnation and return through music, scripture, storytelling, and the arts at Story of the Season. This special service, held three times a year, is led by Artist in Residence Natalie Rogers. The concept was originally created by Daniel Miles and Hunter Jordan, both of whom are still involved. Natalie and her collaborators will share the stage with musicians, worship leaders, and artists from across the state to create a beautiful evening of artistry, reflection, and worship. Blue Christmas: A Service of Remembrance and Hope, Old St. Andrew’s, Charleston, December 17
Blue Christmas, also known as Longest Night, recognizes that the Christmas season can be difficult for many people, and provides a space to grieve and find hope. The service provides quiet, contemplative worship as an alternative in honor of those who are experiencing grief or struggling with loss. Join parishioners at Old St. Andrew’s, Charleston on December 17 at 10:30 a.m. to light a candle or remember your loved one.
Blue Christmas Service at Saint James Anglican, James Island, December 21
Saint James Anglican is offering a Blue Christmas service as a respite for those who struggle to be cheerful and full of the Christmas spirit on December 21 at 5:00 p.m. This service is intended to be soothing to the soul for those who are reminded of painful losses and separations from loved ones in this season of togetherness. Together, come worship the Lord whose birth we celebrate, for He is our great healer and comforter.
