SUMMARY:Refocusing on Mission: Florence/Orangeburg Gathering
DESCRIPTION:Refocusing on Mission: Diocesan Gatherings with Bishop Mark Lawrence\n\nThe first priority of the Church is always proclamation of the Good News of Jesus Christ; in all the manifold ways the Body of Christ accomplishes that task together. \nThere are many obstacles\, however\, that can disrupt the mission of the Church and distract us from our primary task.  These events drain away our energy and negatively impact our missionary effectiveness. \nBishop Mark Lawrence will be leading gatherings at five locations around the Diocese at which he will speak to some of the current events that sap our strength\, answer questions and reflect on how to re-focus and build a Kingdom and Gospel mindset. All clergy and laity are invited to the gatherings. Feel free to attend whichever meeting is most convenient.\n \nJuly 31: Florence/Orangeburg Deaneries\n7 p.m. at Holy Comforter\, Sumter\n\n  \nAugust 2: Beaufort Deanery\n7 p.m. at St. Jude’s\, Walterboro \n\n\nAugust 7: Charleston Deanery\n6:30 p.m. at The Cathedral of St. Luke and St. Paul\, Charleston\n\n\nAugust 8: Georgetown Deanery\n6:30 p.m. at Trinity\, Myrtle Beach\n\n\nAugust 9: West Charleston Deanery\n7 p.m. at Saint James\, James Island\n\n  \nFeel free to attend whichever meeting is most convenient. \n\n\n\nHelpful Resources\nAmong the current challenges to mission for some is the promotion of congregational division by TEC and its local advocates.  Helpful resources in the meantime we encourage for your use are Why The Battle\, Litigation Facts and the witness of the Rev. Matt and Anne Kennedy to their experience with Bp. Adams at Good Shepherd\, Binghamton.  (The transcript of the interview is available as well. ) All are helpful tools and useful background to the coming conversations with the Bishop.

SUMMARY:Safeguarding God's Children
DESCRIPTION:There is no question what a precious treasure our children are. As leaders in the Diocese of South Carolina\, we have a moral\, spiritual and canonical obligation to exercise due diligence in assuring that their faith formation happens in a safe environment. History teaches us clearly that this is not an outcome we can take for granted. There are steps we can and must take to assure the joy of their Christian Faith is not stolen from those in our care. It is with that purpose in mind that the Diocese offers the “Safeguarding God’s Children” workshops across the Diocese. The workshops continue to be led by Mrs. Polly Sosnowski\, whose years of service as a licensed clinical social worker in South Carolina make her a marvelous resource for this training. The training provided will cover the necessary material to fulfill both diocesan canons and local parish guidelines. \nThe next workshop offered is: \nSaturday\, August 25th @ 10:30am \nSt. Paul’s Summerville Children / Youth Building \nLight lunch will be served \nRegister by emailing the Rev. Korey Kincaid. \nHave questions? Contact Korey at (785) 215-3710.

SUMMARY:Anglican Women's Retreat
DESCRIPTION:The Lord’s Prayer: Praying it – Living It.\nBishop Mark Lawrence to Lead Anglican Women’s Retreat September 21-23\, 2018\n\nThe Anglican Women’s leadership team is excited to announce that Bishop Mark Lawrence will be the speaker for the annual retreat at St. Christopher Camp and Conference Center this September. \n“Prayer is as vast as the Universe and yet remains as near as the closet and as personal as your heart beat\,” said Bishop Lawrence.  “No prayer sounds so deep in the soul or rings so high in heaven as this prayer the Lord has taught us to pray and by his grace called us to live.  To study it\, pray it and seek to live it will be life’s great adventure.” \nYvonne Duty\, President of the Diocesan Anglican Women’s Ministries\, said\, “I’m so looking forward to this time together. The time away at St. Christopher is always a treat\, and the fellowship dear\, but I know that we’ll be inspired by the Bishop’s teaching.” \nThe retreat will begin at 4 p.m. on Friday\, September 21 with supper served at 6:30 p.m. The gathering will end on Sunday morning following a service of Holy Eucharist. \nRooms and cabins are available\, as are commuter reservations for those who do not wish to stay at the camp overnight. \nInformation about scholarship assistance is available from Mary Kauser at 843-814-4035 or by email at marykauser@gmail.com. Anyone seeking a scholarship for the retreat should contact Mary before registering. SUMMARY:Kincaid Ordination
DESCRIPTION:On Saturday\, October 27 at 10:30 a.m. the Rt. Rev. Mark Lawrence\, Bishop of South Carolina\, will ordain Korey Kincaid to the Sacred Order of Priests at St. Paul’s\, Summerville.  Korey\, who was ordained a deacon on April 28\, currently serves as the Director of Youth Ministries at St. Paul’s.  Originally from a small farm community in Illinois\, Korey came to South Carolina in 2014.  Though raised in a non-denominational tradition he was always drawn to the liturgy.  Through God’s sovereign grace he met the Rev. Greg Smith (who is now the Rector of Trinity Church Myrtle Beach) on a short-term mission trip to Uganda\, and the rest is history.  He received his Master’s of Divinity from Trinity Evangelical Seminary in Chicago\, Illinois in 2003 and began full time ministry thereafter.  He\, and his wife\, Jamie\, have four children\, Grace (14)\, Trinity (12)\, Anna (11)\, and Kristian (10). \nView the invitation. \n

SUMMARY:Deanery Meetings
DESCRIPTION:A note from the Rev. Canon Jim Lewis: \nDear Fellow Clergy\, \nThe Diocese has made arrangement for a special clergy webinar for our deaneries\, entitled “Shepherding in Uncertain Times.” I believe we would all agree that is an apt description of the context for the leadership of all of us today. Leadership under such circumstances has particular challenges and this webinar will explore some of these\, and how to effectively identity and address them. \nThe presentation is under the auspices of the American Anglican Council and will be led by the Rev. Mark Eldredge and the Rev. Ron McCrary. Mark and Ron will give an approximately one hour presentation\, providing resources for reflection beforehand and discussion afterwards within each deanery clericus gathering. \nEach deanery will provide a host site for this presentation on Wednesday\, November 14 at 10:00 am. Your deans will be in touch shortly\, if they haven’t already done so\, about your location. \nFor now\, I’m simply asking that you mark your calendars accordingly. More details will be forthcoming as we draw closer. \nIn Christ’s service\, \nThe Rev. Canon Jim Lewis\nThe Diocese of South Carolina\n126 Coming Street\nCharleston\, SC 29413\n(843) 722-4075
