Dr. Joey Fitzgerald as the fourth Rector of the Church of the Cross\, Bluffton on Wednesday\, September 2\, 2026 at 6 p.m. The service will be held in the historic church building at 110 Calhoun Street in Bluffton. Your prayers and presence are welcomed. A reception will follow the service. Clergy are asked to wear red stoles. \nThe Rev. Dr. Joey Fitzgerald\, an Anglican priest from the Diocese of the South\, grew up in Marietta\, GA and graduated from the University of Georgia. After a brief stint on staff with Young Life and eight years of teaching art in public schools and coaching swimming and cross country\, he and his wife Brandie felt God was calling him to seminary. In 2008\, they moved their family to Wilmore\, KY\, so Joey could work on his Master of Divinity from Asbury Theological Seminary. He graduated in 2011 and served for four years at Truro Anglican Church in Fairfax\, VA as the Associate Pastor for Family Ministries. In 2015\, he became the rector of Church of the Outer Banks in Nags Head\, NC. In January 2021\, he and his family moved to Newnan\, GA and planted St. Barnabas Anglican Church. He received his Doctorate of Ministry from Asbury Seminary last year and is also the author and illustrator of two books for children and families: The Nicene Creed Illustrated and Instructed for Kids and The Way of the Cross: A Family Devotion. \nJoey met his wife Brandie in the 8th grade\, and after a failed middle school romance\, they finally started dating again after college and were married in 1999. They have three sons\, Sam (25)\, Jack (22)\, and Luke (19) who live on Long Island and work and study in the Golf Course and Turf Grass Management industry. Last August their beautiful daughter Lila joined the saints in heaven\, where she is now wrapped in the loving embrace of Jesus. Fr. Joey\, Brandie\, and their sons miss Lila every day. But the promise of the resurrection\, the comfort of the Holy Spirit\, and the prayers of the saints have been the sustenance and hope their family has needed.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”14679″ img_size=”large”][/vc_column][/vc_row]

Clergy are asked to wear red stoles. \nCamden Windham was ordained to the transitional diaconate by Bishop Chip Edgar on Saturday\, February 22\, 2026 at St. Paul’s Anglican Church in Summerville\, SC. Originally from Lexington\, South Carolina\, Camden moved to Beaufort in May of 2018. He was not raised in the Church but came to know Jesus in the summer of 2012 as part of a student ministry. Since coming to faith\, the Church has been the place where he has planted his feet. \nHe graduated from Columbia International University in December of 2017 with a major in Bible and Youth Ministry. He continued his education at CIU by getting a Masters in Divinity in December of this past year. He has had educational training from Trinity School for Ministry and a Certificate in Anglican Studies from Nashotah House Theological Seminary. \nHe has served as the Director of Student Ministries at St. Helena’s since moving to Beaufort. He has a deep passion for the next generation\, especially with equipping the next flock of leadership within the Church. Clergy are asked to wear red stoles. \nAbout Twig Sargent\nA native of Lake Jackson\, Texas\, the Rev. Twig Sargent earned a Bachelor of Music from Texas Tech University\, a Master of Music from the University of Minnesota\, and an M.Div. from Covenant Theological Seminary. He came to our Diocese from the Presbyterian Church in America\, where he served for 13 years as a Navy Chaplain. \nTwig and his wife Joanna are members of St. Helena’s in Beaufort. Bishop Chip Edgar ordained Twig Sargent to the Sacred Order of Deacons on Saturday May 2\, 2026 at the Parish Church of St. Helena in Beaufort. Clergy are asked to wear red stoles.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text] \nAbout Kurt Walters\nKurt Walters was raised in an Air Force family and grew up living in various parts of the United States. Before entering seminary\, he spent over 15 years in sales management. He is married to Danielle\, a professor of English at Charleston Southern University\, and together they have two children\, Adele and Conrad. \nKurt received his Master of Divinity from Nashotah House Theological Seminary. He has completed internships at St. James Anglican Church\, Newport Beach and St. Michael’s Anglican Church\, Delafield\, as well as chaplaincy training at St. Camillus Campus\, where he focused on memory care and assisted living settings. \nKurt has accepted a call to serve as the curate at Church of Our Saviour on Johns Island. A curate is an ordained minister who serves under the supervision of a rector in training or early stage of ministry\, assisting with duties like pastoral care\, worship\, and parish leadership.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”15039″ img_size=”large” alignment=”center”][/vc_column][/vc_row]

A former high school English teacher for seventeen years\, Jan was led to a second vocation\, a calling to minister the healing truth of the gospel through Bible teaching\, spiritual guidance\, and prayer ministry. In 2012\, she was ordained an Anglican deacon. Jan lives in Columbia\, but is originally from Sumter\, SC. If that seems compelling\, join us at the Lutheridge Camp & Conference Center in Arden\, North Carolina\, February 5-7 for our 2027 Christian Men’s Conference. \nOur speaker this year is the Rev. Matt Canlis\, an Anglican priest\, author\, and pastor best known for his work on relational theology and “living at Godspeed.” Godspeed is a movement focused on slowing down to live at the pace of being fully known by God and by one’s neighbors. The Men’s Conference is designed to address issues facing men in today’s fast-paced world and to provide insights and practical ways to navigate the stresses of everyday life. It is our prayer that the teaching and fellowship of the weekend will draw men closer to God through a greater love and understanding of his Son\, our Savior\, Jesus Christ\, and equip them to live out their faith more fully in their homes\, churches\, workplaces\, and communities. \nEarly Ministry & the Scottish Discovery  \nRaised in Seattle\, Canlis initially pursued church leadership through traditional theological channels. He and his wife\, Dr. Julie Canlis\, moved to Vancouver\, Canada\, for seminary studies before relocating to Scotland\, where Julie pursued her Ph.D. in theology at the University of St Andrews. During their 13 years in Scotland\, Canlis served as a minister at Methlick Parish Church in rural Aberdeenshire. Accustomed to the fast-paced\, program-driven style of North American church leadership\, he experienced a profound shift while pastoring the historic parish. Trading his car for a bicycle and traveling the parish on foot\, Canlis discovered that pastoral ministry was grounded in presence: walking the parish\, knowing people by name\, and participating in everyday community life beyond Sunday services. \nThe Godspeed Project  \nCanlis’s experiences in Scotland\, along with mentorship from theologians Eugene Peterson and N. T. Wright\, inspired the development of the Godspeed concept. With Danny Lund\, Canlis co-created Godspeed: The Pace of Being Known\, a short documentary chronicling his transition from an ambitious young pastor to one who learned to embrace the relational pace of Jesus—who “walked at three miles an hour.” He is also the author of Godspeed Pilgrim: 40 Days of Being Re-parented by the Trinity\, a devotional designed to be experienced while walking through your own neighborhood\, and The Godspeed Study Guide\, an eight-week video and small-group study. \nCurrent Ministry at Trinity Church  \nAfter returning to the United States\, Canlis became rector of Trinity Church in Wenatchee\, Washington. There\, he continues to practice the principles of parish ministry\, encouraging people to pay attention to the places where God has planted them\, slow down\, and cultivate relationships with their neighbors. \nHe and Julie live in Washington\, where they balance local parish ministry\, writing\, and organizing theological retreats in Edinburgh\, Scotland. The Christian Men’s Conference has been a meaningful part of the lives of many men\, and we pray it will continue to be a place where men are strengthened\, refreshed\, and restored.
