SUMMARY:We are One in Christ; a Gathering of Anglican Leaders
DESCRIPTION:Anglican leaders will gather in Charleston\, SC on October 3 for “We are One in Christ\,” a gathering hosted by the Anglican Diocese of South Carolina.  The gathering will begin at 6 p.m. with a light supper and be followed with brief presentations and time for conversation and interaction afterwards. \nOur Guests will Include: \n\nBishop Probal Dutta\, Bishop of Durgapur\, Church of North India\nThe Rev. John Chol Daau\, Episcopal Church of South Sudan\nBishop Daniel Wario Qampicha\, Diocese of Marsabit\, Kenya\nBishop Stephen Kaziimba\, Diocese of Mityana\, Uganda\nBishop Seth Ndayirukiye\, Bishop of Matana\, Burundi\nBishop Francis Matui\, Bishop of Makueni\, Kenya\nBernard Bisoke Balikenga\, Provincial Youth Coordinator\, Democratic Republic of the Congo\nBishop Johnson Gakumba\, Diocese of Northern Uganda\nThe Rev. Fred Ochieng Onyango\, Vicar\, Emmanuel Church\, Shaurimoyo Parish in the Anglican Diocese of Maseno South\, Kisumu-Kenya\nThe Rev. Canon Dr. Rebecca Nyegenye\, Provost of All Saints Cathedral\, Kampala\, Uganda\nBishop George Kasangaki\, Diocese of Masindi-Kitara\, Uganda\nBishop Joseph Kibucwa\, Diocese of Kirinyaga\, Kenya\nAnd more.\n\nInternational Partnerships are Transformative\nOur (International) partnerships have been one of the driving forces growing our church\,” said the Rev. Gary Beson\, speaking of St. Timothy’s relationship with the Rev. Fred Onyango\, a priest serving in the Anglican Diocese of Maseno South in Kenya and the Rt. Rev. Qampicha Wario\, Bishop of Marsabit in the Anglican Church of Kenya. It’s like Ruth and Esther: ‘your people will be my people; and your God my God. \nI can’t imagine not having a relationship with someone from another part of the world\, both for my sake and for the growth of our church. You have to be partnered with someone else in the world to keep from getting tunnel vision. It’s easy to sometimes think Jesus is only alive and well in the Anglican Diocese of South Carolina. Well\, He is alive here\, but he’s also alive in a million other places around the world. \nThe Rev. Gary Beson\, Rector\nSt. Timothy’s\, Cane Bay \nWe have been in an international partnership for the spread of the Gospel and care for God’s people in Northern Uganda for 10 years now. It has transformed our parish from one which was practically unaware of our Anglican brothers and sisters worldwide\, to one energized and mutually encouraged by them. From a timid beginning\, we now have a vibrant joy-filled\, all-in\, relationship which has been one of our greatest encouragements during the last seven years of legal wrangling with TEC. Involvement in global ministry does not allow us to focus on ourselves\, our problems\, our church\, but instead launches us into God’s world\, focusing on God’s plans\, and fulfilling God’s desires. Once begun\, we can never turn our backs again on our brothers and sisters throughout the world. What a blessing it is! \nThe Rev. Greg Snyder\, Rector\nSt. John’s\, Johns Island \n\n  \nInterested in international missions? You have some incredible opportunities coming up in September and October! The New Wineskins for Global Mission Conference will soon be happening at the Ridgecrest Conference Center in Black Mountain\, North Carolina. This every three year event is scheduled for September 26-29\, 2019 with additional opportunities for participating in both pre and post conferences. For the past three conferences\, stretching back to 2010\, the Anglican Diocese of South Carolina has provided funds to the New Wineskins Missionary Network for the purposes of inviting international guests to attend the conference that otherwise would not be able to do so. With these scholarship opportunities\, we have also invited these international visitors to spend some time in the Anglican Diocese of South Carolina as our hosted guests\, where they could have time to share in parishes\, ministries\, schools\, small groups and individual homes. These opportunities to build and enhance relationships have blessed us as a Diocese immeasurably. That same opportunity for blessing continues. \nOnce again\, the Diocese was able to provide a grant for the participation of international visitors to the upcoming 2019 conference\, and those funds have provided us the opportunity to host at least sixteen international guests. They will be coming from Pakistan\, Myanmar\, Uganda\, Egypt\, Nigeria\, India\, Burundi\, Kenya\, Honduras\, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Most of them will be arriving in Charleston in the days prior to the start of the New Wineskins Conference\, and remaining in the Diocese through the week following the conference. I have embraced the wonderful opportunity to coordinate their travel needs to and from the conference at Ridgecrest\, and to facilitate invitations to be hosted throughout the diocese in the week that follows. While most are Bishops and Clergy\, all are involved in the leadership of their respective Dioceses and Provinces. I have already been collecting names of those interested in assisting with transportation to and from the conference\, and parishes interested in hosting any of our guests\, but far more needs and opportunities remain for these many guests to experience the hospitality of the Anglican Diocese of South Carolina. I need and welcome both personal and parish interests and support for maximizing the blessing opportunity before us all. \nWhile we have this gathering of international visitors\, we have also planned a Diocesan event at the Cathedral on the evening of October 3\, 2019 in which they will be able to share about their respective ministries in their countries of origin. We have sponsored similar events with other international guests following the past two New Wineskins conferences\, and each has proven to be a “Not to be Missed” event. So\, if you are at all interested in knowing more about international missions\, you have before you the opportunity to attend the New Wineskins conference\, to help in hosting an international guests\, and to hear them speak to a diocesan audience. \nIf you are able and interested in helping with any of our guests\, please contact me at blawrence@stchristopher.org or call 843.768.0429 and ask for Bob Lawrence

SUMMARY:Ordination
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] \nOrdinations are joyful celebrations – and not just for those being ordained\, but for the entire Christian community. We celebrate together the faithful response of an ordinand to God’s call\, the setting apart for a particular ministry\, and we pray together that the ordinands may be filled with grace and power as they are made a deacon (or priest) through the laying on of hands. Let’s fill the Cathedral on May 25! \n[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”4780″ img_size=”large” alignment=”center”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] \nLuke Deman \nLuke grew up in Goose Creek\, South Carolina and received a BS in Computer Information Systems from the College of Charleston. He joined the Anglican tradition after graduating college\, attending church at St. Paul’s in Summerville. He left St. Paul’s to help plant St. Timothy’s in Cane Bay. He worked for Blackbaud for 10 years before moving to Ambridge to get his Masters of Divinity from Trinity School for Ministry. He is married to Jennifer\, and has a son named Oscar (6 years old) and a daughter named Marcie (1 year old). He is excited to be returning to South Carolina and having the opportunity to stay involved with the community at St. Timothy’s in Cane Bay. \nWill Klauber \nWill grew up in the Charleston area. He began attending St. Michael’s in high school and college. It was there that he was drawn to the Anglican tradition after growing up in the Methodist Church. He double majored in chemistry and marine science at the University of South Carolina and spent several years pursuing a career in environmental toxicology before answering a call to vocational ministry. He has served as the youth minister at Christ Church in Mount Pleasant and as the Summer Camp Director at St. Christopher Camp and Conference Center. He plans to return to the Lowcountry to plant St. Aidan’s of the Sea Islands on Johns Island. Will is married to Sara and they have two children\, Elizabeth (8) and William (5). \nNewman Lawrence \nNewman wasn’t sure where home was growing up in a military/ministry family but came to Charleston in the fall of 2002 when he began college. Throughout the years since coming to Charleston he has worshipped at St. Michael’s where he met his wife\, Trish (Sosnowski) Lawrence. During several mission trips and two years spent in East Africa\, Newman began feeling a call into ordained ministry. Newman graduated from The Citadel in 2006 with a BS in Education (Social Studies) and graduated from Trinity School for Ministry with his Master’s of Divinity on May 11. He has accepted the call to be a curate at the Church of Our Saviour on Johns Island. The term “curate\,” refers to a priest who is in their first post after ordination to the transitional diaconate and then to the priesthood. Newman\, Trish\, and their 18 month twins\, Hank and Huck\, are looking forward to their time at Church of Our Saviour on John’s Island. \nCorey Prescott \nCorey grew up in Charleston\, South Carolina\, where he came to faith through the ministry of his family\, St. James\, and Camp St. Christopher. Having graduated from Auburn University with a degree in Chemistry\, Corey was working as a Research Assistant at MUSC when the Lord called him to Church of the Good Shepherd\, where he spent seven years in ministry before entering the ordination process. He graduated this May with a Masters in Divinity from Trinity School for Ministry\, and this summer he will join the staff of St. John’s Church\, Florence. He and his wife\, Cory\, have two children\, Grace (3)\, and Ford (8 months). \n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

SUMMARY:St. Philip's Tea Room
DESCRIPTION:CHARLESTON\, SC — Historic St. Philip’s Church is pleased to announce the date and time of our 2019 Tea Room. This year our Tea Room will be open the week of April 29th-May 3rd\, 2019\, between the hours of 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. and will again offer a delicious Lowcountry lunch. The Tea Room is located in the Parish Hall and courtyard at the corner of Church and Cumberland Streets in downtown Charleston. \nEstablished in 1680\, St. Philip’s Church was the first Anglican church in South Carolina and is also the oldest parish in the state. It began at the corner of Meeting and Broad Streets\, now the site of St. Michael’s Church and moved to its current location in the early 1700s. Today its congregation includes parishioners whose families have worshiped at St. Philip’s for more than twelve generations and are among the many volunteers serving at the Tea Room. The tradition of the Tea Room started in 1952 as the “Tea Garden” by the Women’s Auxiliary and was then directed by Mrs. Carlton (Hattie) Davies.  The church is excited to continue the tradition again this coming year. \nAt this spring’s Tea Room\, Lowcountry luncheon favorites will return\, such as “Charleston Receipts” okra soup\, pimiento cheese\, classic chicken salad and shrimp salad.  A wonderful selection of desserts\, made by parishioners\, will include Hummingbird Cake\, Grand Marnier Cheesecake and Huguenot Torte as well as a wide variety of other treats. \nOnce again we are delighted to provide several dining choices for guests.  Due to its popularity guests may choose to take advantage of the Tea Room’s original 1952 outdoor format that allows them to dine outside in our beautiful courtyard or on our Parish Hall’s veranda. The Parish Hall will also have plenty of indoor seating with live piano music to enjoy during lunch.  Patrons will also have the opportunity to place takeout orders with delivery provided to downtown locations.  To place a takeout order please call (843) 722-7291. \nThroughout the week\, homemade items\, baked goods\, St. Philip’s souvenirs and other treasures will be sold in our Tea Room gift shop.  Our historic church building will also be open for tours.  Proceeds from the Tea Room benefit St. Philip’s international and local missions\, St. Philip’s choirs\, and youth ministries.  For more information\, please call (843) 722-7734 or visit www.stphilipschurchsc.org.

SUMMARY:DOK Spring Retreat
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The DOK Spring Retreat (which is open to all women) will be held April 5-7 at St. Christopher Camp and Conference Center. The Rev. Summer Gross will be the retreat leader. \nAbout our retreat leader\, The Rev. Summer Gross\nSummer Gross is an Anglican priest\, a writer\, a homeschool mom\, and very-much-in-love with her husband of 22 years\, The Rev. Canon Andrew Gross\, Archbishop Foley’s communications director. \nAndrew and Summer had an Aquila and Priscilla ministry for ten years in a parish along the coast of Lake Michigan. These days she spends the afternoons doing spiritual direction with women around the world\, holding their stories and bringing them to Jesus. \nShe is the Director of Soul Care at Holy Cross Cathedral in Loganville GA and leads Healing and Prayer ministries. \nSummer spent many years paralyzed by anxiety and isolated by a swirl of toxic thoughts. As she broke free\, she began studying inner healing and neuroscience and offers a small group where she witnesses one person after another transformed by the risen Christ. She’s passionate about giving practical ideas to help women root and establish in God’s love so that they can live out of their identity as God’s beloved. \nAt the “Be Still and Know that He is God” Retreat\, Summer will lead us deeper in our walk exploring… Finding the peace of God through praying the Scriptures\, Cultivating stillness in a world addicted to busy\, How clinging to the Presence of God takes us through spaces of suffering and empowers our prayer life\, How a person saturated with the Presence can provide the good news the world needs\, How we can serve out of Christ’s energy and be filled with the compassion of Jesus. \nTogether Summer and Andrew and their three kids (13\,12\, and 9)\, love to tent camp\, kayak\, and eat their way around the world. While she craves the barbecue of Atlanta where they live\, Summer is completely sure that heaven is a long table overlooking the Tuscan countryside. \nHer words and lectio divina videos find a home at aThirstforGod.com and on instagram at @revsummerjoy. \nSummer Joy Gross \nAThirstforGod.com \nSlow Word Movement \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly.” Col 3:16\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nI believe the more rooted we are in God’s abundant love\, the more we are able to serve with abandon. \nContact  mtrsummer@gmail.com[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_btn title=”Download Registration Form” link=”url:https%3A%2F%2Fadosc.org%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2F2019%2F02%2Fsr_dok_spring_retreat.pdf|||”][/vc_column][/vc_row]

SUMMARY:Art of Neighboring Mini-Conference
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The Art of Neighboring\,  A Mini Conference with Dave Runyon Friday\, March 15 10:30 a.m. – 12 noon\, Saint James Church\, James Island\, Open to the Public. Register here. \nWhat if Jesus meant that we should love our actual neighbors? \nWhen Jesus was asked to sum up everything into one command\, he said to love God with everything we have and to love our neighbors as ourselves. Most of us have turned this simple idea of loving our neighbors into a nice saying\, putting it on bumper stickers and refrigerator magnets and then going on with our lives without actually putting it into practice. \nWhat would happen if every follower of Jesus took the Great Commandment literally? \nJoin us Friday\, March 15 at St. James\, James Island\, to hear Pastor Dave Runyon share his own testimony of how the idea of neighboring impacted his own walk with the Lord\, and re-doubled his efforts to share what the Lord put on his heart with church and community leaders all across the country. \nLet’s collectively have our hearts refreshed in the gospel and in Jesus’ commandment\, trusting him to start a movement that will change our own lives\, our neighborhoods and our diocese. \n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_btn title=”Register Now.” link=”url:https%3A%2F%2Fpublic.serviceu.com%2FRegistrationForm%2F10395042-425263397%2F%3FOrgKey%3D562d9500-05a3-47c7-88a8-1c6e90c72687||target:%20_blank|”][vc_video link=”https://vimeo.com/318470627″][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] \nWho is Dave Runyon?\nDave helps faith\, business\, and government leaders unite around common causes in the Denver metro area. He serves as the Executive Director of CityUnite and as a consultant for businesses who have a desire to make a positive impact in their communities. Dave helped to start a neighboring movement in 2010 that has now spread to over 3\,000 churches around the country. This experience prompted him to co-author The Art of Neighboring\, which was published by Baker Books. He speaks locally and nationally encouraging leaders to collaborate for the good of their cities. Before founding CityUnite\, Dave served as a pastor for 10 years at Foothills Community Church and The Next Level Church. He graduated from Colorado State University where he studied history\, economics\, and education. Dave and his wife\, Lauren\, have four kids.[/vc_column_text][vc_video link=”https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SyuS9MrF6-o&feature=youtu.be”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][/vc_column][/vc_row]
