March 18, 2020 – In response to the evolving situation regarding the coronavirus, and out of concern for the welfare of our people as well as the larger community, Bishop Mark Lawrence has issued a directive cancelling all worship services for churches within the Diocese for at least through April. Many of our congregations will be live-streaming worship and the Diocese is working on ways to assist our congregations in doing this.
The Bishop is communicating with all rectors and vicars via online conference calls on a deanery by deanery basis. He will also be issuing a further directive to the clergy as well as sending a pastoral letter to the Diocese in the next few days.
Once again, these measures are issued not out of fear, but out of love and concern for the welfare of all and to assist in defeating this virus. As St. Paul says in his final letter to Timothy, “God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”
